Overview
RowUp ("we", "our", "the app") is a rowing workout app for iPhone and Apple Watch that connects to rowing machines and heart-rate monitors. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information We Collect
Data You Provide
- Workout Configurations: Intervals, targets, and free-row setups you create
- Saved Workouts & History: Your saved configs and completed workout records
- Settings: Preferences such as your chosen metrics and display options
- Username: A display name you choose for the feature request board (stored on our server)
- Email Address (optional): Provided voluntarily if you want updates on feature requests
Data Collected Automatically
- Apple Health Data (with permission): We read your heart rate during workouts to display HR zones, and write completed rowing workouts to Apple Health.
- Bluetooth Equipment Data: Performance metrics (power, stroke rate, distance) from your rowing machine and heart rate from Bluetooth monitors. This data is processed on your device and stored locally.
- Analytics & Diagnostics: Anonymous app usage, interaction events, app lifecycle events, session recordings, and crash diagnostics (see below).
Third-Party Data Collection
- PostHog: We use PostHog for product analytics and session replay to understand how the app is used and to improve it. PostHog data is hosted in the United States. It is not used for advertising, does not use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), and is not shared with data brokers. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
How We Store Your Data
Local Storage
Your workout configurations, saved workouts, history, and settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
iCloud Sync
Your data syncs across your devices through your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit private database. We do not have access to your iCloud data. See Apple's iCloud Privacy.
Feature Request Board
If you use the feature request board, your username and optional email are stored on our server hosted by Supabase. This data is separate from your workout and health data, which remain on your device.
We Do NOT
- Store your workout or health data on our servers
- Sell your personal information
- Serve advertising or use your advertising identifier (IDFA)
- Use your Apple Health data for advertising
- Share your health data with third parties
- Use your email for marketing (it is only used for feature request updates)
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used to:
- Run your rowing workouts and display live metrics and HR zones
- Save and manage your workout configs and history
- Connect to your rowing machine and heart-rate monitor over Bluetooth
- Save completed workouts to Apple Health (with your permission)
- Sync your data across your devices via iCloud
- Understand usage and diagnose issues to improve the app (analytics)
Apple Health
RowUp uses Apple HealthKit only to read your heart rate during workouts and to save completed rowing workouts. Health data is used solely to provide app functionality on your device and in the Apple Health app. It is never used for advertising and is never shared with third parties, including our analytics provider.
Session Replay
The app records anonymous session replays via PostHog to help us understand usability issues. Sensitive text inputs are masked by default. Session replays are first-party analytics used only to improve RowUp and are not used to track you across other apps or websites.
App Tracking Transparency
RowUp does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not use the advertising identifier and do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers, so no App Tracking Transparency prompt is shown.

Your Rights & Choices
- Access: View all your data within the app
- Delete: Delete individual workouts and configs via swipe or edit actions
- Delete Account: Request deletion of your feature request board data by contacting us
- Health Permissions: Grant or revoke Apple Health access anytime in the Health app or iOS Settings
- Bluetooth Permissions: Grant or revoke Bluetooth access anytime in iOS Settings
- iCloud Sync: Control iCloud in iOS Settings; disabling it keeps data on your device
Data Retention
- Data remains on your device until you delete it
- Uninstalling the app removes all local data
- iCloud data persists until you delete it from iCloud
Children's Privacy
RowUp is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Security
- Workout and health data stored locally using iOS encryption
- iCloud data encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
- Analytics data transmitted over encrypted connections
- Feature request board data encrypted in transit and at rest by Supabase
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Changes will be noted with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of changes.
